The Legacy of the Abbey

The Legacy of the Abbey

The story of the Abbey does not end with its dissolution in 1539

In the centuries that followed, this focal point of the town has played host to historical events of local and national importance, as well as adding richly to the social life of the town. This walk brings to life the journey of regeneration through stories which span nearly 500 years since the last Benedictine monk departed.

The Legacy of the Abbey runs on Saturdays from April to October. Tours start on Angel Hill, opposite the Abbey Gate, at 11.00am, and last 90 minutes. They are in English and are suitable for all ages and abilities.

Adults £7.50, U-18s £4, U-5s free, Family of four (max 2 adults) £20.

Tickets must be booked online in advance.

We’ve prepared some Covid-19 Safety Guidelines for you to read before you join us, and you should also read our Cancellation Policy. We look forward to welcoming you!
