Discover the people, buildings and ships that have spanned 250 years in connecting Bury St Edmunds and America
The anniversary of 250 years since American Independence will be celebrated on 4 July 2026 and to commemorate this, we have created a new guided walk about the links between Bury St Edmunds and America.
The tour will explore the significance of Magna Carta, the journeys of the English settlers, the ‘friendly invasion’ of American personnel during the Second World War and many previously unnoticed places and facts.

Stars and Stripes will launch on 4 July and take place on selected dates (to be advised), starting on Angel Hill, opposite the Abbey Gate (what3words///doubt.display.trail). Tours start on Angel Hill at 2pm. They last 90 minutes, are in English and are suitable for all ages and abilities. Please let us know beforehand if you have any special access requirements. We regret that we cannot accept dogs (apart from assistance dogs) on our tours.
Adults £10, U-18s £5, U-5s free. Advance booking essential.
Your guide will be waiting on Angel Hill wearing a green Bury Tour Guides top.
We look forward to welcoming you!
