We are recruiting new members – a role which promises to be ‘enjoyable, rewarding and great fun’.
Bury Tour Guides are looking to add to their roster of 14 members, with anyone interested invited to apply by October 10.
For recruitment purposes, the guides are linking with St Edmundsbury Cathedral to attract people aged 18-plus to become white badge (cathedral) or green badge (the abbey and town) tour guides in Bury St Edmunds.

Adrian Tindall, chair of Bury Tour Guides, said: “Being a guide is enjoyable, rewarding and great fun but it does require attendance at formal lectures, practical visits/training sessions and home study.
“Candidates are assessed against the required guiding skills in addition to the completion of written papers on local knowledge, a specific tour planning project and practical guiding tours.”
The white badge training will mean cathedral guides will not only be dedicated to the cathedral but will meet a recognised standard to explain the history and beauty of the building.
With the tour guides and cathedral staff working in partnership, it has been possible to subsidise the training programme.
Those wishing to attain the white badge will pay a fee of £200. Becoming a green badge guide will cost £400 and those who complete the white badge course will be able to register to attain the green badge.
A candidate information and application pack can be obtained from programme administrator Melanie Mills at bseguiding@hotmail.com.
